Over the past quarter, the Iroha 2 project has remained stable, with a strong focus on expanding into commercial projects in the CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) domain while continuing to support the open-source community through functional enhancements. Additionally, the team has initiated contributions to the Sora v3.0 network in response to community requirements.

Overall Activity in the Past Quarter

The Iroha 2 team has continued executing on a long-term development roadmap, delivering both community-driven features and commercial enhancements.

Key community-driven deliverables:

  • Iroha 2 Explorer – a new tool for exploring blockchain data.
  • Missing Triggers Transactions – extended transaction handling capabilities.
  • Node Syncing & Hub-chain for Sora v3.0 – ensuring seamless integration and interoperability.
  • New VM Architecture – improved execution environment for smart contracts.
  • Technical Debt Reduction – refactoring and internal improvements.

Key commercial enhancements:

  • Transaction Fees Module – enabling flexible fee management.
  • API Refactoring & Simplification – tailored for CBDC project needs.

Current Plans

The project will continue to execute against its long-term backlog with a focus on network performance, scalability, and security, as well as a constant commitment to upholding the values of open source software and fostering an environment of contribution, diversity and inclusion.

Planned initiatives include:

  • Completion and rollout of the new VM architecture.
  • Hub-chain research and implementation to support Sora v3.0.
  • API refactoring to streamline CBDC deployments.

Iroha 2 continues to be a stable and production-ready project, serving as an important utility layer for real-world blockchain use cases. It is currently deployed in Japan, the UK, the UAE, and Thailand.
